2018 “Mini Salons” -Photographers of all levels are welcome!

Calling all image creators looking to re-stimulate, get motivated or simply learn more about the exciting art of photography.  I’m excited to offer the 4th Annual “Mini Salon” Itinerary for 2018!   My experience as a facilitator and my informal and easy going manner will take you through each stage of the learning process in a fun and supported learning environment.  I have taught Photography to folks from all over the world, most recently on expedition cruise ships working in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres of this beautiful planet we call home.  I am excited to help you learn through lecture, presentation and active hands-on experience in the field with photo sharing opportunities in a number of these workshops, the salons are also small in number to ensure effective one-on-one teaching situations.

‘Trying to find new ideas in photography is very hard so its always a pleasure to meet someone who sees the world through a fresh lens . Its been a joy to be shooting alongside Boomer, sharing perspectives on photos and learning how he operates . He’s a thinker and this makes you think . . . and that’s the best route to taking better pictures’

Introduction to Photography and Visual Design – $195.00
What do all those buttons mean and how can I effectively use my camera to it’s fullest potential?  How is metering done properly?  How do we organize our creative process to ensure success when making images? We’ll discuss these and many other questions and explore how and when we need to use our camera in situations to create images that truly reflect our desires and mind’s eye experiences.
Photography is a form of non-verbal communication. Learn the tools of visual design and how to “speak” effectively through your images using elements and principles of design as they relate to photography.  Shoot less, be more productive and excited with your image making.  All levels of photographer are welcome!  Participants will learn through lecture, presentation and hands-on in the field with a photo sharing evening to round out the experience!

Travel Photography – $135.00
Travel for many of us is our time for freedom, to explore and to experience the world around us.  Too often we come back with images that are disappointing or do not evoke the strong emotional attachments we experienced when we were “on-location”.  Creating great travel images begins by drawing your viewer into your world, to your experience.  This travel salon will discuss the tricks and techniques used by travel photographers and photojournalists from all over the world who tell their stories!  Designed with the traveler in mind, this salon will also touch on basic photography techniques, design considerations and finally gear selection for optimizing your travel experience through photography.

Wednesday – February 7, 2018
Time: 6:30 – 9:30pm

Landscape Photography – $165.00
Patience, and a strong understanding of light and it’s individual components are key components for success when delving into the fascinating world of landscape photography.  We will discuss these ideas as well as learn how to create dimension and perspective in our compositions, and as always we will discuss  technical as well as design considerations as they relate to landscape photography. We will be shooting on location for part of this day salon so dress for weather and bring along a lunch!
Saturday, February 10th, 2018

Wildlife Photography – $135.00
I would stack wildlife photography up against travel photography as the single most popular genre of photography!  We are fascinated by four legged, eight legged, compound eyed, slithering, flying, digging, slow, fast, night-time, day-time, big and small critters from all over this fascinating world we find ourselves in!  Beginning with the technical and design specifics of this type of photography, we evolve into the ethics and mechanics of photographing both large and small animals,as well as dealing with the water, land and air environments to which the animal kingdom belongs!  Often spirited with stories of close encounters, this salon is one that I really enjoy hosting!
